Technical Textiles provide new opportunities to the Global Textile Industry to have long term sustainable future. The research and development in last 20 years indicates one of the major opportunities in the global technical textile market, reaching to different application domains including vehicles, construction, agriculture, sports, health care, defense and security, electronics, power, environmental technologies and many more. The sector is identified as one of the most emerging and inventive industries of the world with an annual growth rate of 4% globally. Globally, the technical textiles contribute to about 27 percent of textile industry, in some of the western countries its share is even 50 percent while in India it is a meager 11 percent. In India, the sector has registered compounded annual rate of growth (CAGR) of 11% and the market size is reached to Rs. 1,58,540 crore in 2016-17 from the market size of Rs 70,151 crore in 2012-13. Despite of achieving high growth rate the per capita consumption of technical textiles in India is 1.7 per kg vis–a-vis 10-12 kg in developed countries. This sector is still import-intensive. In the last few years, the industry has witnessed a rise in imports - it stood at USD 1.4 Billion in Financial Year (FY) 2014-15 with a CAGR of 8% since FY 2007-08. Though the country currently spends a significant amount on imports, the dependence can eventually be reduced by further investing in technology-heavy products. The trend of the future is to do more, achieve something, something new in all arenas of research, innovation, market development and business.

Taking into account the scope and opportunity in the sector, 6th International Conference on Technical Textiles & Nonwovens (ICTN 2018) aims at bringing leading entrepreneurs, researchers, academicians, experts, and students all over the world to share a common platform to present and share recent research investigations, technological advancements, and exchange ideas and global views on the future perspectives and development in the field. The conference will be organized by the Department of Textile Technology, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, scheduled for 6-8 Dec 2018, at IIT Delhi, New Delhi, India. Many supporting social events enriching the scientific and cultural program will be organized as well. IIT Delhi, established in 1961, is one of the premier technical engineering institutions in the country, with a vision to contribute to India and the world through excellence in scientific and technical education and research, to serve as a valuable resource for industry and society and to remain a source of pride for all Indians. The institute is located at center of the city, Delhi, a symbol of the country’s rich past and thriving present, where ancient and modern blend seamlessly together. The city not only touches your pulse but even fastens it to a frenetic speed. So come and join us in the ICTN 2018 to explore new research ideas and visions, and look out of the window and discover a whole new city of numerous stories and experiences, be it its heritage, the art and crafts, the diverse cuisine and culture.
